Now those days are gone for good
Though heart’s sap swells in us still
It is body’s once stout trunk
that, drained so, lacks will
Rains rode by and left their stamp of lightning;
Winter withdrew and left us with its chill;
Leaving behind their sulky heats for remembrance ,
How many springs have crossed the barren hill?
Only God knows whether
the gaming meant gain or loss for our skill,
but who can gainsay one win?
Songs gone for good, their echo lifts us still.
